The ukulele came to life in the 19th century in Hawaii. It is an adaptation of the Portuguese instrument, the machete.
There are four strings on a standard ukulele which are tuned to G, C, E, and A.
The ukulele most commonly comes in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. However, there are other sizes available including the minuscule pocket ukulele.
